Tiburon Bypass Valve Error Overheating

Hello, I'm experiencing a strange issue with my 2007 Hyundai Tiburon, gasoline engine, with 76484 km on the clock. The error memory shows a bypass valve malfunction, and the engine is overheating. I've checked the air intake for obstructions and inspected the vacuum system hoses for leaks. Could this bypass valve error be a symptom of a coolant leak somewhere else causing this whole cascade?

Summary of the thread

The initial problem involved a bypass valve malfunction and engine overheating in a 2007 Hyundai Tiburon. The issue was suspected to be linked to a coolant leak, which could cause overheating and indirectly trigger the bypass valve error. After inspecting the cooling system, a loose hose clamp was identified as the source of the coolant leak. Tightening the clamp and topping off the coolant resolved the overheating and bypass valve error, confirming the error was a secondary issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

It's possible. A coolant leak leading to overheating could throw off other sensors and trigger the bypass valve error indirectly. Are you seeing any power loss alongside the overheating and stored error? That would further point to a broader system issue. Kinda like if your left leg hurts, you might start walking funny and then your back hurts too.

Yes, I have been noticing some power loss, especially when accelerating uphill. So the bypass valve error is likely a consequence of another fault, rather than the root cause itself? Should I be focusing my attention on the cooling system first, checking for signs of coolant leakage, before I even consider replacing the bypass valve?

Exactly. Think of it like a domino effect. The coolant leak (if present) is the first domino, causing the overheating, which then triggers the bypass valve error and the power loss. Given the symptoms, I'd say a thorough inspection of the cooling system is your best bet. Check around the radiator, hoses, water pump, and even the head gasket for any signs of leakage. If you're not comfortable doing that, I'd recommend taking it to a trusted workshop.

Thanks a lot for the advice! Indeed, after a very thorough inspection for coolant leaks, I finally spotted one coming from a loose hose clamp. Tightened it up, topped off the coolant, cleared the error memory, and everything seems back to normal now. So the bypass valve error was indeed a consequential fault. Repair cost: 0€!
