Titan transmission control unit failure
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Nissan Titan diesel is experiencing unresponsive paddle shifters, gearbox slipping, grinding noises during shifts, and occasional emergency mode activation. Diagnostic tools indicate a transmission control unit (TCU) error. The problem is likely due to a faulty TCU, as confirmed by another owner with similar issues. Replacing the TCU resolved the problem, restoring smooth operation.

That's interesting! Yes, I noticed the paddle shifters were slow for a while before they stopped working altogether. The errors in the memory pointed clearly to the transmission control unit. Do you remember if that was the problem for you too?

Yep, sounds like we had the same issue. For me, it was indeed the transmission control unit. I'd advise taking it to the workshop; they should be able to confirm the diagnosis and sort you out. It wasn't cheap – cost me around 1000€ – but it fixed the problem completely.

Thanks for the heads-up! I appreciate you confirming my suspicions. I'll get it booked into the shop ASAP. And thanks for the price estimate, so I know what to expect. It was indeed the transmission control unit. They replaced it, and now it is running smoothly again.

I feel your pain! I've got a Nissan Titan too. I had similar symptoms a while back – the slipping, the rough shifting, the whole nine yards. Did you happen to notice if the paddle shifters became sluggish before they gave up completely?
