Tourneo check engine light water sensor error
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Ford Tourneo diesel is experiencing a check engine light and rough engine performance, with a diagnostic error pointing to the water sensor. The sensor itself appears fine, leading to suspicion of a faulty cable or plug connection. A similar past experience suggests that a bad connection can cause these symptoms, and electrical fault tracing at a workshop may be necessary if the issue isn't resolved through inspection.

Thanks for the quick reply! The error code specifically mentioned the water sensor. I'm not an expert, but could that code be triggered by a bad connection even if the sensor itself is working correctly?

Yes, absolutely. A bad connection can mimic a faulty sensor. Considering the error code and your symptoms, I'd strongly suspect the wiring or connector. I remember struggling with it myself. Eventually, I took mine to a workshop. They diagnosed it quickly with electrical fault tracing. It cost me 95€.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! It sounds like I should focus on checking the wiring and connector more thoroughly. If I can't find anything obvious, I'll take it to a workshop for professional diagnostics, as you suggested. Appreciate the help!

I had a similar experience with my Tourneo, though it was a few years back. The check engine light and rough running are definitely concerning. Did the error code specifically point to the water sensor, or was it more generic? A bad connection is a very likely culprit, as these sensors are exposed to a lot of road grime and vibration.
