Tourneo Stalling Idle Air Control Valve

Hey, my 2004 Ford Tourneo with a gasoline engine is giving me grief. Keeps stalling at idle, the check engine light is on, and the error memory has a code. I'm guessing it's something to do with the idle air control valve? Mileage is only 42164 km. Any ideas?

Stalling and check engine light? Sounds rough! Could be the idle control valve like you suspect, or maybe a dirty throttle body? Is the air intake clean? I had similar problems on another car once, and it turned out to be gunked up.

Throttle body... hadn't thought of that. Where exactly should I be looking to check the air intake for contamination? Is it easy to clean?

Yeah, the air intake being heavily contaminated is a definite possibility! Could explain the error code and stalling. To be honest, if you aren't super confident, might be worth getting a mechanic to take a quick look. Better safe than sorry, you know?

Okay, thanks for the advice! Took it to the shop, and you were right – intake was filthy, messed up the idle control valve. Cost me 425€ to get it sorted. Runs like new now!
