Toyota iQ Blower Motor Fault

Afternoon. My 2010 Toyota iQ with a gasoline engine is throwing up a strange fault. The blower motor doesn't work, and my diagnostics point to a problem with the AUC sensor. I've checked the wiring as best I can, but everything looks ok. My understanding is the cable or plug connection of the component may be defective, but I am not sure how to proceed. Any thoughts?

Hello. This sounds eerily familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane – though it was the humidity sensor causing my problems. The climate control went haywire. Did you check the sensor itself? I mean, really check it? Like, unplug it and inspect the pins for corrosion? Seems basic, but those little things can cause a world of hurt. Also, what's the mileage on your iQ?

Thanks for the quick reply. Good shout about the corrosion. I did give the pins a once-over, but maybe I wasn't thorough enough. I'll take a closer look tomorrow in the daylight. The mileage is 76452 km. Is there anything specific I should be looking for beyond the obvious signs of corrosion?

Right, 76452 km… That's enough miles for things to start getting a bit temperamental! Honestly, after my experience with the Megane, and considering the complexity of modern HVAC systems, I'd suggest you get it looked at by a professional. It could be a multitude of things, and without the right tools, you could end up chasing ghosts and making things worse. I went down that rabbit hole, and it cost me more in the long run. It's like trying to diagnose a computer virus with a hammer – sometimes you just need to call in the experts.

Appreciate the insight. I think you're right; I'm probably out of my depth on this one. I'll book it in at the workshop. The current estimate is around 95€ for the repair, so hopefully it's just a quick fix and a new sensor, then it should all be good.
