Toyota iQ Diesel Power Loss and Smoke
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Toyota iQ diesel is experiencing power loss and emitting smoke during acceleration, particularly uphill. The issue is suspected to be related to the diesel particulate filter (DPF), a common problem in such scenarios. A similar case confirmed a defective DPF, which required replacement to resolve the issue. It is advised to have the vehicle checked at a workshop to confirm the diagnosis and proceed with necessary repairs.

Oh really? What was the fix in the end? Was it a massive job? And did it kill your fuel efficiency while it was playing up?

Yep, turned out to be a defective DPF. I tried a few things, but no luck. Ended up having to get the whole filter replaced. Best to get it checked at a workshop. Could save you a lot of guesswork.

Thanks. Garage confirmed it's the DPF. Quoted 1550€ for a new one and fitting. Ouch! At least I know what it is now.

Sounds familiar. I've got an iQ diesel too, and I had similar symptoms a while back. Reduced power and smoke… Was it the diesel particulate filter? Possibly a sensor fault?
