Toyota iQ Engine Power Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Toyota iQ is experiencing engine power loss, poor response, a whistling noise, and increased fuel consumption, with the check engine light on. The suspected cause is a boost pressure actuator fault, possibly related to the turbo wastegate or a pressure sensor issue. The recommended solution is to have a professional mechanic diagnose and repair the problem, which was confirmed to be an electrical bypass valve issue, costing 250€ to fix.

Thanks, that's helpful. Where exactly is the turbo wastegate located, and how can I check if it's defective?

Okay, so it's tucked away near the back of the engine, pretty close to the turbocharger itself. Honestly, without the right tools and experience, it's a bit tricky to diagnose properly. Since you're getting those symptoms and suspect a boost pressure actuator fault, I'd recommend taking it to a trusted mechanic. Could be the actuator valve or even a pressure sensor issue. Best to get it checked professionally before you mess something up further. Could save you money in the long run!

Appreciate the advice. Took it to a shop, and it was indeed the electrical bypass valve – cost 250€ to repair. Runs much better now.

Whoa, that sounds rough! I had something similar happen with my iQ. Check your turbo wastegate. Is it struggling to open or close properly? Mine was causing all sorts of weird issues like what you described. Have you checked for any obvious leaks around the turbo system?
