Toyota iQ Overheating Bypass Valve Error

Alright, gearheads, need some help! My 2009 Toyota iQ, gasoline engine, with 73374 km is throwing a weird code. It flags a bypass valve malfunction, and the engine's been overheating. I've checked the coolant level (seems fine, though I'm wondering if there might be a tiny coolant leak somewhere), and I'm worried about fuel efficiency. The error memory stores the 'bypass valve' error, but could this be a consequential error from something else?

Whoa, overheating is never good! I had something similar happen with my old Opel Corsa last year. Different engine, sure, but also got a bypass valve error. For me, it turned out to be a completely unrelated sensor freaking out. You checked the easy stuff like coolant, right? Any other weird symptoms?

A sensor, huh? Interesting. Which sensor was it on your Corsa? And did the sensor issue also cause overheating or just the error code? I want to know where to even start looking for that kind of error.

Honestly, I can't remember which sensor it was exactly - something to do with the emissions system I think. The sensor thing just triggered the error code; the overheating was still happening and I was getting worried. Best bet is to take it to a workshop and have them do a proper diagnostic. Save yourself the headache!

Okay, you are right, diagnostics seem to be the way to go. Took it to the shop, and you won't believe it – a wire had come loose! The bypass valve error was indeed a consequential error. They reconnected it, cleared the code, and everything's running perfectly. Total cost: 0€!
