Toyota iQ Radar Sensor Error
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Toyota iQ diesel owner experienced a radar sensor error, leading to system failures and warning lights, likely related to driving assistance features like adaptive cruise control. The issue was suspected to be caused by a dirty radar sensor, a common problem after driving in poor weather conditions. Cleaning the sensor resolved the error, and the owner spent 45€ on cleaner and calibration to fix the issue.

Thanks for the quick response! I haven't checked the sensor itself yet. Good shout. Where exactly is it located on the iQ? And how easy is it to get to? Is there any specific cleaner I should use, or is soapy water enough?

On mine, the radar sensor sits behind the front bumper, pretty much dead center. You should be able to access it without removing the whole bumper, but it might be tight. Honestly, if you're not comfortable fiddling around there, or if cleaning it doesn't fix the problem, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. These automotive sensors can be temperamental, and the radar calibration can be tricky. It may be worth getting it looked at by someone who knows what they are doing.

Cheers for the advice! Turns out the sensor was just filthy, just like you said. Gave it a good clean, and the error's gone. Cost me 45€ for the cleaner and the calibration, but it's all sorted now. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

Hey there. I've got an iQ too, and I had similar problems a while back. If I remember correctly, it started after a long drive in some pretty filthy weather. The radar sensor is quite sensitive. Could be something as simple as a dirty sensor. Worth checking before you start tearing things apart. Where is the radar sensor in your car?
