Toyota Noah Smoke and Warning Light

I'm getting so frustrated with my 2004 Toyota Noah (gasoline engine). A warning light suddenly appeared on the speedometer, and it's puffing out smoke whenever I accelerate. Could this be related to the emission control? The car has almost 100000km on the clock. What do you think?

I had a similar problem with my Noah a while ago. The symptoms sound familiar. Have you checked the exhaust back pressure sensor? That was the culprit in my case.

Really? The exhaust back pressure sensor? Where is it located on the engine and how did you figure out that was the issue?

Yes, it’s that sensor! I'm not exactly sure where it sits this time. I took it to a workshop. They plugged it into their computer and it pointed directly at the exhaust back pressure sensor. Turned out it was defective.

Okay, thanks for the insight! I took it to my local mechanic, and you were spot on! The back pressure sensor was faulty. Cost me 245€ to replace, but now it runs like new!
