Toyota Vios Engine Stalling and Power Loss

Hi, I've got a 2020 Toyota Vios, gasoline engine, with about 153,000 km on the clock. Recently, the check engine light popped on, and the engine occasionally stalls when idling. I've also noticed a bit of a drop in power, especially when accelerating. I suspect it could be a fuel issue. I recently changed the fuel filter, and I think that the error entry could have caused the fuel pressure regulator to fail. Could this be the cause? Any thoughts?

That sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra. Same symptoms - check engine light, stalling, and power loss. Have you checked the fuel pressure? A faulty fuel regulator can cause a pressure drop, which messes with fuel efficiency and engine performance.

Thanks for the quick reply! How exactly did you check the fuel pressure on your Astra? And what did you end up doing to fix it?

I used a fuel pressure gauge connected to the fuel rail. The pressure was way off. Considering the age of your Vios and the symptoms, it is likely the fuel pressure regulator. While you could try diagnosing it further yourself, I ended up just taking my Astra to a workshop. They confirmed it was the regulator and replaced it.

Thanks for the advice! I had it checked out, and you were right – it was the fuel pressure regulator. Seems like changing the fuel filter stirred up some trouble. New regulator cost me 45€, and the car is running smoothly again.
