Trafic automatic transmission shifting issues
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Renault Trafic diesel with 193,749 km was experiencing erratic automatic transmission shifting and a recurring transmission indicator light, suggesting possible emergency mode activation. The issue was identified as being caused by undervoltage, which disrupted the transmission's electronic controls. A workshop diagnosed and resolved the problem by addressing the undervoltage, replacing the oil, and performing a transmission flush, resulting in restored normal shifting.

Undervoltage, huh? That's interesting. How did you figure that out? And what exactly did it affect in terms of the transmission's behavior?

Well, the garage guys found it eventually. Apparently, the low voltage was causing all sorts of erratic signals to the transmission control unit. Best thing to do is probably get it checked out at a workshop. They can diagnose the undervoltage and see if it's related to the transmission problems.

Thanks for the tip! I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on – it was indeed an undervoltage issue causing the transmission to act up. They sorted it out, replaced the oil, and did a transmission flush, costing me 240€. Shifts like new now!

Sounds frustrating! I had similar symptoms on my old Opel Insignia – also an automatic. Did you happen to check the vehicle voltage? Turns out, undervoltage can really mess with the automatic transmission's electronic controls.
