Trafic Camshaft Sensor Encoder Wheel Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Renault Trafic diesel is experiencing starting issues, stalling at idle, and a check engine light at 90939 km. The suspected cause is a defective camshaft sensor, potentially due to a faulty encoder wheel. It is advised to check the ignition timing and sensor output, and if unable to test the sensor, seek professional diagnosis and repair. The diagnosis confirmed the camshaft sensor issue stemming from the encoder wheel.

Thanks. Could you tell me more about your sensor experience? Did you also think it was the encoder wheel on the camshafts?

Yes, the encoder wheel was the root cause in my case, which lead to a camshaft sensor defective. Given the symptoms and mileage, if you can't test the sensor yourself, take it to a workshop for diagnosis and repair.

Thanks! I had it inspected, and the diagnosis confirmed the camshaft sensor issue from the encoder wheel. Repair cost was 695€.

I had similar symptoms with my Trafic: difficult starts and stalling. Have you checked the ignition timing and sensor output? Sounds like sensor failure, but test it before replacing.
