Trafic charge air temperature sensor issue

I'm facing a perplexing issue with my 2005 Renault Trafic, diesel engine, with 90150 km on the clock. The check engine light is on, accompanied by a noticeable reduction in engine power. I'm detecting a distinct whistling noise, escalating to a loud hissing sound upon acceleration. Diagnostic tools reveal a 'charge air temperature sensor' error. Preliminary investigations suggest a potential defect in the cable or plug connection. Has anyone encountered a similar predicament? The temperature gauge seems to be fluctuating wildly.

Sounds familiar. I drive a Trafic too, and had a similar issue not too long ago. Check engine light, loss of power, and that awful hissing sound. I was convinced it was a turbo leak or something major. Did you check the airflow sensor too?

Indeed, a potential turbo issue crossed my mind as well. So, when you had the same issue, did you replace the charge air temperature sensor or could you fix the cable or plug connection?

I didn't touch it myself, to be honest. Electrics aren't my strong point and I was worried about making things worse. Took it to a workshop in the end, they sorted it pretty quick. It was the connection to the sensor, just like yours. Best to get it checked properly to be sure. Could be a dodgy sensor as well.

It seems prudent to consult with a qualified technician, as you suggest. I brought it to a workshop today. Turns out it was indeed the cable to the charge air temperature sensor that was defective. Repair cost me 95€, check engine light is gone and the van drives as usual.
