Trafic engine smoke reduced power

My 2006 Renault Trafic with a gasoline engine has a check engine light, reduced power, and smoke on acceleration. I suspect a crankcase ventilation valve malfunction. Am I on the right track?

Hey, I had similar symptoms on my Trafic! Reduced power, smoke – the whole shebang. Check your PCV valve and the hoses connected to it. Mine were gunked up pretty bad. I'd start there before digging too deep.

When you mention 'gunked up,' is that a visual build-up, or is there a specific test I can perform to confirm the malfunction? I want to pinpoint the issue precisely before replacing parts or misdiagnosing it.

Definitely a visual build-up, like thick, oily sludge. Try disconnecting the PCV valve and see if it's blocked. Honestly, with those symptoms, and knowing the age of these engines, I'd just replace it. It's a cheap part and might save you a bigger headache later. If the problem persists after you've cleaned or changed the valve, going to a decent mechanic is a good call.

I'll inspect and likely replace the crankcase ventilation valve. The projected repair cost of 360€ seems reasonable, considering the potential for more extensive damage if I don't fix it. Thanks for the guidance!
