Thanks for the quick reply! How would I check the gearbox oil level on my Trafic? Is it something I can do myself, or should I take it to a workshop?

Checking the gearbox oil level on the Trafic can be a bit tricky without the right tools and knowledge, as it requires accessing the fill and level plugs on the transmission. Given the symptoms you're describing, and the potential for further damage, I'd strongly recommend taking it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose the issue, check the oil level, and replace the sensor if necessary. Ignoring transmission issues can be very costly in the long run.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on - the gearbox oil level was too low, which triggered the sensor fault. They topped it up and replaced the sensor, and it cost me about 365€. Seems to be running perfectly now!

I had a similar issue with my Renault Trafic. The transmission oil pressure sensor is indeed a common culprit. The emergency mode and slipping are typical symptoms. Before replacing the sensor, have you checked the gearbox oil level? Low oil can trigger the sensor fault and cause all sorts of problems. A pressure gauge can verify this, but it's best to check the oil level first.
