Trafic knock sensor fault

Hey, my 2005 Renault Trafic with a gasoline engine is giving me grief. The check engine light is on, and my fuel consumption is way up. Plus, the engine idles really rough, almost like it's missing. My OBD reader says it's a defective knock sensor. I checked the wiring and the plug as good as I could, but I'm no mechanic. Could a dodgy cable really cause all this trouble?

I had something similar happen with my Trafic. Check engine light, rough idle, the whole nine yards. Have you tried wiggling the connector with the engine running to see if the idle changes? It could be a loose connection even if it looks okay.

Good idea! So, when you had that problem, was it definitely the knock sensor wiring? And did it cause all those symptoms for you too? I'm trying to avoid replacing the sensor itself if it's just a faulty wire.

Yeah, the symptoms were pretty much identical. I messed with it for a bit, but honestly, electrical gremlins can be a real pain. In the end, I took it to a workshop. They confirmed it was the wiring and sorted it out pretty quickly. Saved me a bunch of headache.

Thanks for the advice! Sounds like a trip to the workshop is in order. I was hoping for a quick fix, but I don't want to risk messing things up worse. I'll post an update once it's sorted. It was indeed a defective knock sensor cable/plug connection. Cost me 95€ to get it fixed. Runs like new again!
