My Opel Corsa was the same, no trigger, just happened. A defective sensor in your steering wheel is possible. I'd visit a workshop. They can read the error code and find the cause. Mine was the clock spring, cost 180€ including installation.

I had a similar issue with my old Opel Corsa. The multimedia buttons on the steering wheel stopped working. My mechanic suspected the clock spring or a faulty connection in the steering column. Was there any event before the error, like a hard bump or turning?
