Trafic poor starting fuel consumption

I'm having a nightmare with my 2008 Renault Trafic diesel. It's got 218190 km on the clock. Lately, my fuel consumption has gone through the roof, and it's a real struggle to start, especially when it's cold. I've been reading online and a few people suggested it might be something to do with the throttle valve. Could it be a defective accelerator pedal module? Anyone else experienced this?

Sounds familiar! I've got a Renault Trafic too. I had similar issues with poor starting and the fuel economy was terrible. Have you tried cleaning the throttle body? Sometimes a build-up of gunk can mess with the throttle position and air intake.

Cleaning the throttle body, huh? I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to car stuff, so could you explain that a bit more? Is it easy to get to? I'm just wondering if I need to find someone to do it for me.

Yeah, cleaning it might help, but honestly, with those symptoms and that mileage, it could well be a defective accelerator pedal module, like you suggested. If cleaning doesn't improve things, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop to get it checked out properly. They'll be able to test the throttle position sensor and see if it's sending the right signals.

Thanks so much for the advice! I took it to a local garage, and you were spot on. They confirmed it was the accelerator pedal module and replaced it. Cost me 205€ but it seems to have sorted out both the starting problem and the fuel consumption. Really appreciate your help!
