Trafic Steering Angle Sensor Issue

My 2023 Renault Trafic diesel is showing weird symptoms: increased steering effort, a vibrating steering wheel, especially at lower speeds. My code reader says it's a defective steering angle sensor. Mileage is only 97666 km, so I think it's a coding issue rather than a dead sensor. Anyone seen similar? Can I recode this myself, or do I need the dealership?

Steering angle sensor issues are nasty! I've not seen those exact symptoms together on a Trafic, but had a similar vibrating wheel thing on my old Fiesta when the electronic stability control was playing up. Are you getting any ABS or ESC warning lights on the dash at all? If the sensor is misreporting the angle, the ESC could be kicking in unnecessarily, thinking you are losing control.

Good shout on the ESC, hadn't thought of that specifically. No warning lights are showing up, though – that's what's throwing me. If the ESC was interfering, wouldn't I expect to see the light flashing? Is there any way I can check the live data from the steering angle sensor without specialist equipment to see if it's reporting garbage?

That's a pain if there are no warning lights. I'm just a novice, so that's as far as my limited knowledge goes. It does sound like a dodgy steering angle sensor, though. Best bet is probably to get it hooked up to Renault's diagnostic system, as it can run a complete diagnostic check on the sensor and stability system. Head for the workshop. It will be worth it.

Workshop confirmed it needed a new sensor and faulty coding. They recoded it and did a quick wheel alignment. Cost me 195€, but it drives like new again. Thanks for the help!
