Trajet Multifunction Steering Wheel Failure
Summary of the thread
The multifunction steering wheel of a 2003 Hyundai Trajet stopped working, with diagnostics indicating a vague error. The issue was suspected to be a connectivity problem, possibly a bad cable in the steering wheel. A suggestion was made to check the clock spring, a component that maintains electrical connections while the steering wheel turns. Upon professional inspection, the problem was confirmed to be a defective cable connection, which was then repaired.

Thanks, the clock spring makes sense. Did the diagnostic tool specifically say it was the clock spring, or was it a process of elimination? If it was the clock spring, did you try to fix it, or just replace the whole thing?

My diagnostics weren't conclusive, but I figured it was the clock spring. Because it's complex and involves the airbag, I took it to a shop. They confirmed the clock spring and replaced it. It's best to have professionals handle it to avoid airbag problems.

Thanks for the advice! I took the Trajet to a shop, and you were right. It was a defective cable connection in the steering wheel. The total cost was 95€. Thanks again; you saved me a lot of time and trouble.

I had similar symptoms on my Trajet. The steering wheel controls went dead, and the malfunction indicator lit up. Have you checked the clock spring (rotary coupler)? It's the electrical connection that lets the steering wheel turn while keeping the electrical connection.
