Transit ECU Error
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Ford Transit diesel experienced a significant reduction in engine power, with an error related to the engine control unit (ECU) stored in the error memory. The suspected cause was a defective main relay, potentially leading to the ECU malfunction. After consulting a workshop, the issue was confirmed to be a faulty main relay, which was replaced, resolving the power issue and restoring normal engine function.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I did try a system reset, but the issue persists. The specific error code I'm getting refers to an internal fault within the ECU itself. I haven't yet checked the wiring harness thoroughly, but I will definitely add that to my list. Before I dive deeper, did your Transit require a full ECU replacement, or was it something less drastic?

Given that the error code points to an internal fault within the ECU, it does sound serious. In my case, it was a damaged sensor, not the ECU itself. But if the error is indeed ECU-related and a reset didn't solve it, I'd strongly recommend taking it to a workshop with experience in automotive electronics. Replacing the ECU, or even attempting an ECU repair, can be complex and requires specialized tools and knowledge. A faulty main relay could be the root cause, but it would be better to let a professional confirm it before you spend money on a repair. It could potentially cost around 120€.

Thank you for the advice. I took the Transit to a workshop, and you were spot on – they confirmed a defective main relay, leading to the ECU issue. Replacing the relay cost me 120€, and the engine power is now back to normal. I appreciate the insights!

That's quite concerning. I had a similar issue with my Transit – although I have the petrol engine, so it might be different – where the engine was acting sluggish. The error codes pointed to a potential ECU failure too. Reduced engine power is never a good sign, especially if it's accompanied by stored error codes. Did you try resetting the system to see if it helps? Sometimes, it's just a glitch in the automotive electronics. The ECU, or Engine Control Unit, is basically the computer module that manages the engine. Have you checked the wiring harness for any signs of damage or corrosion? Also, were any specific error codes logged in the system? Knowing these codes would help pinpoint the problem.
