Transit Electric Battery Sensor Issue

I've got a 2022 Ford Transit Electric with about 245923 km on the clock. Recently, the starter motor is getting weak, and the lights are flickering, especially at idle. I've put a multimeter across the battery terminals, and the voltage seems a bit low, even after driving. I suspect it might be the battery sensor causing the issue. Has anyone had similar issues with their E-Transit?

I have a Ford Transit too, though I'm not sure about the year. I had similar problems. I'd recommend you double-check the sensor readings with an OBD2 scanner. It will give you specific error codes. I suspect, based on your description, that the sensor might be reporting incorrect battery voltage to the ECU, causing all sorts of weirdness. Also, have you tested the battery itself with a proper load tester? It could be the battery failing.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't done a proper load test yet, just the voltage check. When you say OBD2 scanner, are you referring to diagnostic trouble codes? What codes did you see and any chance you remember what the readings were from your sensor?

Yes, I am referring to diagnostic trouble codes; if the sensor is indeed faulty, you will probably see error codes related to battery voltage or sensor malfunction. I don't recall the exact codes, but from my experience, if your symptoms match and you have validated the connections, it is the sensor. Given the vehicle's age and mileage, it's a high wear and tear item anyway. I would suggest taking it to a reputable workshop for proper diagnosis and replacement. They will have the proper tools and expertise to confirm the issue and replace the sensor correctly.

Right, appreciate the info. I took it to the workshop, and they ran some tests. Turns out it was a defective battery sensor as suspected, and the total repair, including parts and labor, came out to 315€ Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
