Transit Engine Overheating Error

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2002 Ford Transit gasoline engine. It's got about 175k kilometers on it. I'm getting an error stored in the error memory, and the engine is overheating like crazy. I was thinking maybe a vacuum leak, but I'm not sure where to even start looking. Could this be connected to the exhaust system?

I had similar overheating issues on my old Opel Corsa, though no error code. Check the bypass valve; maybe it's stuck. It can cause the engine to overheat if it's not working properly. Is your fuel efficiency also gone?

Interesting. So, how did you figure out it was the bypass valve on your Corsa? And what exactly does the bypass valve do anyway? I'm trying to wrap my head around how that could cause overheating and store an error. The error memory thing makes me think it's something electrical, not mechanical.

On the Corsa, the garage told me to check it first, as it's a common problem and easy to fix. Turned out they were right. As for the error code - could be a consequential error resulting from the overheating itself. You should definitely bring it to a workshop.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to my local shop, and you were right. Turns out the bypass valve malfunction was indeed a consequential error – it was something else entirely. They cleared the error memory. Repair cost 0€!
