Transit Engine Overheating Error
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Ford Transit with a gasoline engine and 175,000 kilometers is experiencing severe overheating and storing an error in the error memory. Initially suspecting a vacuum leak, the owner considers a connection to the exhaust system. A suggestion to check the bypass valve is made, as it can cause overheating if malfunctioning. Ultimately, a visit to a workshop reveals the bypass valve issue was a consequential error, and the problem is resolved without cost.

Interesting. So, how did you figure out it was the bypass valve on your Corsa? And what exactly does the bypass valve do anyway? I'm trying to wrap my head around how that could cause overheating and store an error. The error memory thing makes me think it's something electrical, not mechanical.

On the Corsa, the garage told me to check it first, as it's a common problem and easy to fix. Turned out they were right. As for the error code - could be a consequential error resulting from the overheating itself. You should definitely bring it to a workshop.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to my local shop, and you were right. Turns out the bypass valve malfunction was indeed a consequential error – it was something else entirely. They cleared the error memory. Repair cost 0€!

I had similar overheating issues on my old Opel Corsa, though no error code. Check the bypass valve; maybe it's stuck. It can cause the engine to overheat if it's not working properly. Is your fuel efficiency also gone?
