Transit Generator Malfunction

I'm writing to report a concerning issue with my 2020 Ford Transit diesel. At 84687 kilometers, the vehicle is exhibiting symptoms of a generator malfunction. I am experiencing reduced engine power, a warning light, and difficulty starting the engine. Also, I have observed weak and flickering lights. Diagnostic procedures have confirmed an error code implicating the generator. I suspect a defective generator is the cause. Any insights or suggestions from members who may have encountered similar circumstances?

I had a similar issue with my Transit. Same symptoms: reduced power, warning light, the whole shebang. For me, it turned out to be the alternator – which is, I believe, the same as the generator you're talking about. Sometimes these modern vehicles throw up all sorts of error messages when the voltage is low. Have you checked the serpentine belt that drives the alternator? If that's loose or damaged, it could cause the alternator to not charge properly. And have you had the starter motor tested? A faulty starter can also cause similar issues. What did you use to read the error code?

Thank you for your prompt and informative response. I appreciate the clarification regarding the alternator terminology. Regarding the serpentine belt, I performed a visual inspection and did not observe any obvious signs of damage or slippage. However, I concede that a more thorough examination may be warranted. You mentioned a diagnostic analysis of the starter motor. Could you elaborate on the methodology employed in that assessment?

Certainly. By starter motor assessment, I am referring to a test performed to evaluate the electrical current draw and overall functionality of the component. It is better left to a qualified technician. It sounds like you've covered the basics, and since you're getting a specific error code pointing to the generator/alternator, it’s probably best to get it professionally diagnosed at a reputable workshop before potentially throwing money at other parts.

I appreciate the confirmation and your expert opinion. As per your suggestion, I have consulted a certified Ford technician, who has corroborated the diagnosis of a defective generator, necessitating its replacement. The estimated repair expenditure is approximately 960€. Thank you again for your time and expertise; it was invaluable. I will make a note of checking the starter motor as well for future reference.
