Transit GPS Antenna Fault

I'm having an issue with my 2014 Ford Transit diesel. The navigation system keeps saying there's no GPS signal. A local garage found a GPS error in the memory. They think the GPS antenna is defective, which makes sense since I’ve been getting zero signal. Has anyone else run into this? Is it a common Transit thing? I’m thinking of changing the antenna myself, but are there specific things I need to be aware of to get the GPS receiver working again?

I had a similar GPS problem with my Transit. Error stored in the system, no GPS reception whatsoever. Have you checked the antenna connection? A loose connection can cause a lot of headache. Also, have you checked for any physical damage to the antenna cable? Sometimes the cable is just damaged in a way that cuts signal.

Thanks for the suggestions! I've wiggled the cable near the receiver a bit, but didn't manage to get any better signal. Where exactly is the antenna connection? Is it hard to reach? I'm worried about causing more damage. Also, how can I check the antenna cable properly? Do I need special tools?

The antenna connection is usually under the plastic cover of the rearview mirror. Gently pry it open, and you should find the antenna connection there. If not, you would need to remove the overhead console - but be extremely careful not to break anything and only do it if you feel comfortable enough. Regarding tools, a multimeter is typically needed to test the cable properly, so maybe going to a dedicated car workshop might be a good idea. I ended up going to the shop to have it diagnosed properly, and the repair set me back around 200€ (plus VAT).

Thanks a lot! Yeah, messing with the overhead console doesn't sound like my cup of tea. 200€ seems reasonable to have it fixed without breaking more things in the process. Guess I’ll book it in to the workshop and stop scratching my head about it. Thanks again for your help!
