Transit poor starting and stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Ford Transit with a gasoline engine is experiencing poor starting and stalling issues, with the check engine light on. The suspected cause is a faulty camshaft sensor or possibly the encoder wheel on the camshafts. A similar issue was resolved by replacing the camshaft sensor and encoder wheel, which improved the vehicle's performance.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't checked the ignition timing directly. I'm not really sure how to properly test the camshaft sensor. Could you elaborate on how you diagnosed your issue?

Turns out my Transit had the same camshaft encoder wheel problem. I'd suggest a workshop, to avoid potential engine damage from the stalling issue. It might be a costly job, but better safe than sorry.

Okay, I appreciate the insight. I took it to a mechanic and you were right, it was the camshaft sensor and encoder wheel. The repair cost me 695€, but the van is running smoothly now. Thanks again!

Sounds familiar. I have a Transit too, and had similar symptoms last year. Before replacing parts, did you try sensor testing, as in, checking the ignition timing? It could also be a crankshaft sensor issue messing with the engine control.
