Transit preheating lamp and smoke issue
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Ford Transit is experiencing issues with the preheating lamp staying on, the check engine light activating, and emitting smoke during acceleration. The problem may be linked to a defective glow control unit or a loose cable connection. A diagnostic test confirmed the glow control unit's defectiveness, and replacing it resolved the issue, restoring the vehicle's performance.

Yeah, I ran a diagnostic test, and it's pointing towards the glow control unit being defective. But could it really be something as simple as a loose connection? I'm trying to avoid replacing the whole unit if it's just a bad wire. Did your diagnostic test say the same?

Mine did point to the glow plugs but the mechanic recommended replacing the glow control unit and it solved the problem. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop just in case.

Thanks a bunch! I took your advice and went to a local mechanic. Turns out it was exactly what you said - the glow control unit was faulty and the cable was defective. 95€ later, everything is running smoothly again. Really appreciate the help!

Sounds familiar! I've got a Transit myself (though a slightly different year). Had a similar thing happen with the preheating and the smoke. Did you run a diagnostic test?
