Transit preheating lamp and smoke issue

Alright Transit buddies, I'm pulling my hair out here! My 2013 Ford Transit, diesel engine, with a modest 52789 km on the clock, is throwing a fit. The preheating lamp refuses to turn off, the check engine light is mocking me, and it's puffing out smoke like a chimney when I accelerate. I've checked the obvious stuff, but could a dodgy cable or plug connection to the glow control unit really cause all this drama?

Sounds familiar! I've got a Transit myself (though a slightly different year). Had a similar thing happen with the preheating and the smoke. Did you run a diagnostic test?

Yeah, I ran a diagnostic test, and it's pointing towards the glow control unit being defective. But could it really be something as simple as a loose connection? I'm trying to avoid replacing the whole unit if it's just a bad wire. Did your diagnostic test say the same?

Mine did point to the glow plugs but the mechanic recommended replacing the glow control unit and it solved the problem. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop just in case.

Thanks a bunch! I took your advice and went to a local mechanic. Turns out it was exactly what you said - the glow control unit was faulty and the cable was defective. 95€ later, everything is running smoothly again. Really appreciate the help!
