Transit rough start camshaft sensor error

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2013 Ford Transit (diesel engine). It's got about 35,762 km on it. Lately, it's been starting really rough, like it's struggling to turn over. And when I finally get going, it feels like it's lost a ton of power, especially on hills. I plugged in my OBD reader, and it's throwing a camshaft sensor error. I've checked the wiring as best as I can – the cable and plug connection seem okay visually, but I'm no expert. Could this really be the camshaft sensor causing all these problems?

Sounds like a faulty camshaft sensor, alright. Those symptoms definitely point in that direction, especially with the error code. Have you tried checking the sensor's resistance with a multimeter? That could give you a clearer picture of whether it's actually kaput or if the wiring is the culprit. Also, did the error code specify which camshaft sensor (if there's more than one)?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the resistance with a multimeter yet – to be honest, I'm not entirely sure where to even begin with that on this Transit. As for the error code, it didn't specify which camshaft sensor. Is it possible there are multiple ones on this engine, and how would I identify the right one to test?

Yeah, some engines have multiple camshaft sensors. Since the code isn't specific, and you're not familiar with multimeter testing on this engine, I'd honestly suggest taking it to a trusted workshop. They can pinpoint the exact sensor that's failing and properly diagnose any wiring issues. Continuing without the right tools and knowledge might just make things worse. It really does sound like the sensor, though.

You were spot on! Took it to the workshop, and it was indeed the camshaft sensor. They said the cable or plug connection of the component was defective. New sensor fitted, and the van is running like a champ again. Total cost was 95€, which isn't too bad. Thanks for your help!
