Transit transmission oil pressure sensor issue

I've got a 2007 Ford Transit, gasoline engine, about 108k kilometers on it. Lately, the engine light keeps popping up, sometimes it's the transmission light too. The error code points to the transmission oil pressure sensor. Thing is, the van sometimes goes into emergency mode, shifts are clunky, and I've even heard some grinding. Could this really just be a sensor, or am I looking at something bigger?

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Ford Transit with a gasoline engine is experiencing issues with the engine and transmission lights, clunky shifting, and grinding noises. The error code indicates a problem with the transmission oil pressure sensor. Possible causes include low gearbox oil levels or a faulty sensor. Solutions involve checking and topping up the oil level, and if problems persist, replacing the sensor, as confirmed by a professional diagnosis.

Sounds familiar! I had a similar scare with my Transit. Same symptoms, engine light, rough shifting. Before you panic, have you checked the gearbox oil level? A low oil level can mess with the pressure and trigger that sensor. It's like trying to run with not enough air in your tires – things get bumpy.

Hmm, hadn't thought of that. I'll check the oil level tomorrow. But if the level is fine, is it safe to assume the sensor is faulty? I'm just trying to avoid replacing a sensor if the root cause is something else entirely. Don't want to swap parts like changing socks if you get my drift.

Okay, if the oil level checks out, then yeah, the sensor is a prime suspect. Still, these things can be tricky. It could be a wiring issue too, but honestly, if you're hearing grinding noises, and the sensor code is popping up, it's best to get it checked by a pro. Could save you a bigger headache (and bill) down the line. Better safe than sorry, eh?

Thanks for the advice! I checked the oil, and it was indeed low. Topped it up, but the problems persisted. Took it to a workshop. Turns out the sensor was faulty because of the low oil and had to be replaced. All in, cost me about 365€.
