Transit transmission slipping grinding

Hi, I've got a 2005 Ford Transit, diesel engine, with a weird issue. The check engine light and transmission indicator light are both on. The gearbox feels like it's slipping, and the shifts are really unclean. Sometimes I even hear grinding noises when it shifts. I had the error memory read, and it's pointing towards a defective automatic transmission converter, specifically the lock-up clutch. Has anyone experienced anything like this? My van only has 85252 km on it, it seems way too early for transmission problems, doesn't it?

Whoa, that sounds rough! I've got a Transit too. Slipping and grinding? Those aren't good signs. Is it possible the converter is actually defective? I had similar symptoms a while back – slipping, weird shifts, the works. Turned out to be something completely different. Have you checked the transmission fluid level and condition? Is it dark or burnt smelling? When was the last time you had the transmission serviced?

Thanks for the quick reply! I did check the transmission fluid, and it looks okay, not burnt or anything. The level seems fine too. I haven't had the transmission serviced recently though. What was the 'something completely different' in your case? Maybe it's the same issue. Worth investigating, right?

Okay, good you checked the fluid. My issue was also a torque converter failure. Cost me a fortune. Given your error codes and the symptoms, it really does sound like the converter. Honestly, I'd recommend getting it checked by a specialist. Better safe than sorry, right?

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. I appreciate it. I've booked it in at a transmission specialist, and they've confirmed it's the torque converter. Repair is going to be around 2120€ Ouch! At least I know what it is. Thanks again!
