Transmission problems with 2016 Skoda Superb petrol engine with 180873km mileage: experiences and costs

Grinding noise when shifting gears

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Hi friends, does anyone have any experience with a 2016 Skoda Superb petrol car that has run 180873km and where the gearbox slips/shifts erratically, with grinding noises when changing gear and a warning light in the speedometer? I suspect it is a malfunction of the transmission oil temperature sensor. Had a bad experience at the last workshop visit and am now looking for advice. How did it go for you? What did you pay and how satisfied were you with the workshop's work? Many thanks in advance.

Hello, I also have a Skoda, but a 2013 Octavia. Doesn't sound so good with your gearbox. Unfortunately, I had that too. Not the same problem, but similar. My gearbox was somehow difficult to shift and often clunked loudly. I then went to the garage and it turned out that the gearbox oil had leaked and dirt had collected in it - a real disaster. In any case, it sounds serious and shouldn't be ignored. My advice would be to take the car to a good garage and get it checked. As a note, make sure you find real experts for Skoda. Not all garages can deal with Skoda specific issues. With my issue, I was reasonably happy with the garage's work, but you never know. All the best with it!

Hey, thanks for your reply! It sounds pretty similar to what I'm going through right now. Was worried I was the only one having a problem like this, but it does seem to be more common. You're absolutely right, I should find an expert who knows Skoda. I'm afraid of that, but it has to be done. Do you remember how much it cost you back then? And have you had any other problems with the gearbox since then? Thanks for your help!

Hey! Yes, I know that well, I had that worry too. But don't hang your head, everything will be fine in the end! When my gearbox oil level was too low, the whole thing cost me €365. Fortunately, I haven't had any more problems with the gearbox since the workshop visit. In my case, it was actually a malfunction of the transmission oil temperature sensor, just as you suspected. Since then, the fault has been rectified and my Skoda is running like clockwork again. I'm really pleased with the repair, even if it was a lot of money. But what won't you do for your car, right? Good luck with your visit to the workshop!

Hi, thanks for the reassurance! It's good to hear that you haven't had any more problems since the repair. €365 doesn't sound ideal, but if it solves the problem in the long run, I think it would be worth it. I'll call a few garages tomorrow and ask for Skoda experts. I hope I get a good mechanic like you. Your experience has really helped me, thanks again! Keep your fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Hello, unfortunately you didn't write it down, but I think you are dealing with the "DSG gearbox". What else you can try, especially at this mileage, is to change the transmission oil or, even better, to flush the transmission oil so that all the dirt comes out. Flushing often helps against what you are describing. MFG
