Traveller automatic transmission issues

Hi, I've got a 2017 Peugeot Traveller diesel with almost 200k km and I'm having some automatic transmission issues. The engine warning light is on, and the error memory mentions something about a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. The gearbox is sometimes in emergency mode, and it slips or shifts uncleanly at times. I've even heard grinding noises when shifting. Could low gearbox oil level cause the temperature sensor to act up like this?

Hey, I had similar symptoms with my Traveller. The transmission was acting up, and yes, a faulty temperature sensor can trigger all sorts of weirdness in the automatic transmission. By the way, the temperature sensor measures the oil temperature to protect the gearbox, if it reports incorrect values this can lead to the problems you are describing.

Thanks for the quick response! Did you also experience the grinding noises? And did you also find out that the oil level was low?

The grinding noise wasn't constant, but yes, I had it occasionally. The low oil level was indeed the culprit, at least partially. In my case, replacing the temperature sensor and topping up the oil didn't fully fix it, so I ended up needing some additional work. I think you should check with a workshop.

Thanks a lot for your help! I'll take it to a workshop to get it checked out. Turns out the transmission oil level was too low. They replaced the temperature sensor as it was faulty for 365€. Shifts smoothly again now!
