Traveller Oil Pressure Warning

I own a 2016 Peugeot Traveller with a diesel engine. Recently, a warning light appeared and the oil pressure warning lamp lights up intermittently. The vehicle has 283488 km. Could this be related to oil contamination? I suspect it might be due to exceeding the maintenance interval.

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Peugeot Traveller with a diesel engine exhibited an intermittent oil pressure warning light, potentially due to oil contamination from exceeding the maintenance interval. The high mileage of the vehicle increases the likelihood of this issue. It was suggested to inspect the oil for sludge and consider an oil analysis for contaminants. Ultimately, an oil and filter change, along with a system flush, resolved the problem, confirming contamination as the cause.

It is highly probable that your symptoms are related to oil contamination, especially given the mileage and the exceeded maintenance interval. Diesel engines are particularly susceptible to this issue. Have you inspected the engine oil for any signs of sludge or unusual thickness? Also, when was the oil filter last changed? Consider having the oil analyzed for fuel dilution and the presence of other contaminants.

I have not yet checked the oil for sludge, but I will do so. Regarding the oil filter, I'm unsure of its last replacement date. If contamination is confirmed, would simply changing the oil and filter suffice, or are additional oil additives necessary?

While a simple oil and filter change is a necessary first step, it might not be sufficient if significant contamination exists. The presence of sludge indicates a more thorough cleaning might be required. I recommend having a qualified technician inspect the engine internally. They can assess the extent of the contamination and determine if additional cleaning or component replacement is necessary. Ignoring significant contamination can lead to long-term engine damage. A workshop visit is unavoidable.

Thank you for the detailed information. I followed your advice and took the vehicle to a workshop. It turned out the oil was indeed heavily contaminated due to the extended service interval. An oil and filter change, along with a system flush, resolved the issue. The repair cost was 165€.
