Traverse Engine Smoke and Power Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Chevrolet Traverse is experiencing a check engine light, reduced power, and smoke during acceleration, with diagnostics pointing to a crankcase ventilation system issue. A similar case was resolved by replacing the crankcase ventilation valve, suggesting this as a likely cause. It is recommended to seek professional evaluation to confirm the diagnosis and proceed with repairs.

I did not observe any overtly rough idling, and the odor is difficult to isolate beyond what one might expect from the exhaust with the observed smoke. Could you elaborate on what your issue turned out to be?

Sounds identical to what I had. It was the crankcase ventilation valve, as you suspected. Honestly, diagnosing it myself became a hassle, so I took it to a workshop. They confirmed it pretty quickly. Save yourself some time and get it checked out professionally.

I appreciate your input. Based on your experience and the prevailing symptoms, I shall schedule an appointment with a reputable workshop for a comprehensive evaluation. The estimated repair cost is approximately 360€, but I want a proper diagnosis first.

I have a Traverse too, and experienced something similar last year. Check engine light and poor acceleration mostly. Did you notice any rough idling or unusual smells along with the smoke?
