Traverse Generator Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Chevy Traverse is experiencing a generator fault, leading to reduced engine power, warning lights, poor starting, flickering lights, and a full error memory. The suspected cause is a defective generator, but other possibilities include a bad alternator or starter motor connections. The recommended solution is to check the voltage drop across the battery terminals and consider professional repair, which ultimately confirmed the generator issue and resolved the problem.

Voltage drop, huh? How exactly do I check that? And where are the starter motor connections, anyway? I'm not exactly a mechanic, haha. Seriously though, could a misfire cause some of this stuff, too?

Alright, checking the voltage drop requires a multimeter. As for the starter motor connections, they are on the starter motor. However, considering all your symptoms and error codes, it really does sound like the alternator. Honestly, with that many issues, you're probably best off taking it to a workshop. Save yourself the headache and potential for messing something up worse.

Yeah, you're totally right. I took it to the shop, and you nailed it – it was the generator! Cost me 960€ for the repair, but at least it's fixed. Thanks for the advice!

Whoa, that sounds rough! I had similar issues with my Traverse (don't remember the year, sorry!). Reduced engine power and flickering lights were the first signs for me. I'd check the voltage drop across the battery terminals while the engine is running. Might give you a clue before you start throwing parts at it. Could be a bad alternator, but also check your starter motor connections.
