Trax AC failure

Hey, I'm having a real headache with my 2014 Chevrolet Trax diesel. The AC has completely stopped working at 107830 km. It just doesn't cool anymore, and when I try to turn it on, nothing happens at all. No cold air, no change in the engine sound. I've checked the AC button and made sure the blower is working, but no luck. Could it be a fuse, or is it more likely a bigger problem?

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Chevrolet Trax diesel experienced a complete AC failure at 107,830 km, with no cooling or change in engine sound when activated. The problem was suspected to be related to the AC system's valves, as the compressor was not engaging. The suggested solution was to have the vehicle inspected by a qualified workshop, which confirmed a defect in the AC valves, leading to a successful repair.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Greetings. The symptoms you describe certainly point to a malfunction within the air conditioning system. The fact that it doesn't switch on at all eliminates some possibilities. Have you noticed any unusual noises coming from the AC unit recently? Also, it would be helpful to know if you've had the refrigerant levels checked recently, or if there's any indication of a leak. Finally, does the temperature control seem to be functioning correctly, directing hot air when selected?

Thanks for the quick reply! No strange noises that I can recall, and I haven't had the refrigerant checked recently. I couldn't smell any refrigerant leaks either. As for the temperature control, I can switch it to hot, and hot air comes out, so that seems to be working fine. But when I switch it to cold (with the AC button on) nothing happens – still just warm air. Any thoughts?

Given the additional information, it is probable that the issue lies with the individual valves within the air conditioning system itself. It sounds like the compressor is not engaging. Without proper diagnostic equipment, it's difficult to pinpoint the exact culprit, but your symptoms are consistent with a failure in these components. It’s similar to a house with many rooms, and the valve to only one room isn't working, resulting in lack of heat only in that room. I would advise taking the vehicle to a qualified workshop for a thorough inspection and repair.

Thanks a lot for your help! I took it to a local mechanic, and you were spot on. Turns out there was a defect within the valves in the air conditioning system, like you said. Cost me around 1000€ to get it fixed, but at least now I have a working AC again. Really appreciate the guidance!
