Trax automatic transmission control unit issue
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Chevrolet Trax diesel with 227,154 km is experiencing starting issues, a check engine light, and a slipping gearbox. The problem is traced to a defective control unit in the automatic transmission, specifically related to the parking position sensor within the transmission control module (TCM). The suggested solution is to replace the faulty TCM, which resolves the issue and costs approximately 1000€.

Thanks for the info! Yeah, the code mentions the control unit. Was it definitely the parking position thing, or could it have been the neutral position? I read something about that too.

For me, it was definitely related to the parking position sensor/switch within the TCM. When the TCM couldn't confirm the car was in park, it wouldn't allow the engine to start. Slipping gears is also a symptom of that, so you should go to the workshop ASAP and check the control unit. If it is the control unit it will be around 1000€ including the work time. Better be safe than sorry!

Thanks a lot for your help! I took it to the shop, and you were right. The control unit was defective, especially concerning the parking position. They replaced it, and it cost me around 1000€. Everything seems to be working fine now!

That sounds familiar. I've got a Trax too, and I had similar symptoms. Engine wouldn't crank, lights on the dash were a mess, and the transmission was acting up. Check if the error code specifically mentions the transmission control module (TCM). In my case, it turned out to be a faulty TCM that was causing the parking position to not be recognized, which then prevented the engine from starting. What code are you seeing?
