Trax Diesel Engine Power Loss

I'm having trouble with my 2021 Chevrolet Trax diesel. It's got 101,810 km on it, and the check engine light is on. The engine feels like it's lost power, especially when accelerating, and I'm seeing smoke when I accelerate. I'm starting to think it might be the crankcase ventilation valve. Does that sound right? Anyone else run into similar issues? It's like the engine is trying to breathe through a straw!

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Chevrolet Trax diesel with 101,810 km is experiencing power loss, a check engine light, and smoke during acceleration. The issue may be linked to a faulty crankcase ventilation valve, which can affect emissions and engine performance. Symptoms include rough idling and potential fuel economy decline. The recommended solution is to have a trusted mechanic replace the valve to prevent further complications.

Whoa, that sounds familiar! I had the same symptoms with my Trax not too long ago: check engine light, sluggish acceleration, and some smoke. The crankcase ventilation valve was the problem. I'm no mechanic, but if that valve goes bad, it can mess with your emissions and engine performance. Did you notice any change in fuel economy or any weird idling issues along with the smoke and loss of power?

That's wild! It sounds like it could be the crankcase ventilation valve. I haven't really kept an eye on the fuel economy, but now that you mention it, I think I'm filling up more often. And yes, the idling is a bit rough sometimes, almost like the engine is hiccuping. If it was the valve for you, what did you do to fix it? Did you do it yourself, or did you take it to a shop?

Given the rough idling and the possible fuel economy drop, it's almost certainly the valve. Unless you're super confident working on engines and have the right tools, I'd suggest taking it to a trusted mechanic. I tried tinkering with it myself at first, thinking it would be a simple fix, but I quickly realized I was in over my head. A malfunctioning crankcase ventilation valve can cause other problems if not addressed correctly. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks for sharing your experience! It's a relief knowing someone else has dealt with the same issue. Based on what you've said, I'm not going to try and DIY this one. I'll get it booked into the workshop. I just got the final repair cost - 360€. Fingers crossed that a new crankcase ventilation valve is all it needs.
