Trax Exhaust Temperature Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Chevrolet Trax diesel is experiencing a check engine light, reduced power, and increased fuel consumption. These symptoms suggest a potential issue with the exhaust temperature sensor, possibly due to a small exhaust leak. The recommended solution is to inspect and replace the faulty sensor and check the exhaust system for leaks. After following this advice, the problem was resolved with a sensor replacement and exhaust check.

Cheers for the reply. Yeah, I've got a basic OBD2 reader – it's flagging a faulty exhaust temperature sensor. A leak sounds plausible, but wouldn't that be obvious? I haven't had any exhaust work done recently, so where should I start looking?

An exhaust leak isn't always immediately obvious, especially if it's small. Given the error code and symptoms, the sensor itself is the prime suspect. The reduced engine power and higher fuel consumption align with the ECU compensating for incorrect temperature readings. I suggest having the sensor and the surrounding exhaust components professionally inspected.

Took it to a garage, and you nailed it. Faulty exhaust temperature sensor, likely caused by a small leak. Sensor replacement and a quick exhaust check sorted it. Cost me 265€ all in. Thanks for the pointers!

Good evening. The symptoms you describe suggest a potential issue with the exhaust temperature sensor. Are you able to access the engine control unit (ECU) for any error codes? A leak in the exhaust system could certainly lead to such issues, affecting the sensor readings. Has the vehicle undergone any recent exhaust work?
