Trax Fuel Flap Release Failure
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Chevrolet Trax owner experienced a fuel flap release failure, with an error memory indicating a fault, preventing the locking or unlocking of the fuel filler flap. Possible causes discussed included an electrical fault, such as a short circuit or a defective actuator, and a defective linkage. The suggested solution was to visit a workshop for accurate diagnosis. The workshop confirmed a defective linkage, which was repaired, resolving the issue.

Thanks for the insights. If the electric actuator is defective, should I be able to manually open the fuel flap? Also, could a defective linkage be the cause?

Good question. If the actuator is completely dead, there might be a manual override, but it depends on the design of your Trax. Check your owner's manual. And yes, a defective linkage is definitely possible, like a loose bicycle chain. The actuator might be working fine, but the connection to the flap is broken. Given the error code and multiple symptoms, I would suggest a workshop visit. Diagnosing electrical gremlins can be tricky, and they can accurately pinpoint whether it's the actuator, linkage, or something else entirely.

I appreciate the detailed explanation and advice. Following your suggestion, I took the Chevrolet Trax to a local workshop. The diagnosis confirmed a defective linkage, and the repair cost 210€. Everything is working now.

Sounds frustrating! Since you're seeing a stored error and the fuel flap isn't responding, it could be an electrical fault, like a short circuit preventing power from reaching the actuator. Does the problem occur regardless of whether you're using the key fob or the release button inside the car? Isolating whether the issue is with the actuator or the signal being sent to it might help.
