Troubleshooting 2019 Fiat Panda Startup Issues: Potential Engine Control Unit Main Relay Problem

Hey my 2019 Fiat Panda (Gas engine) isn't starting up like usual. I'm suspecting the issue might be with the engine control unit main relay but I don't have a solid clue. Have any of you encountered a similar problem? If so, how did your mechanic resolve it? Would love to hear about your experiences and any troubleshooting advice. Cheers!

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Fiat Panda is experiencing startup issues, suspected to be related to the engine control unit main relay. The car isn't making unusual noises, but the check engine light is on. A similar issue was resolved in another Fiat model by replacing the main relay. It's suggested to have the car inspected by a professional and to check for any recalls that might address the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey there, I own a 2017 Fiat 500 (diesel) and had a similar issue last year. I've got some experience tinkering with cars, so I decided to take it to my local workshop. Turns out, it was indeed the main relay that was defective. I ended up paying around 120 Euro to get it fixed. It might be a similar issue with your Panda. Could you give more info on your car's symptoms? It'd be easier for me to help you further. Does it make any weird noises, or any warnings on the dashboard? Anyway, I'd recommend getting it checked by a professional to avoid any damages. Best of luck!

Howdy! I appreciate your response - glad to know I'm not the only one! To give you more context, the car's not making any unusual noises, just not firing up properly. As for warnings on the dashboard, other than the check engine light, nothing else. You're right though, I think it's best to get it inspected by a pro. It's been running for about 72076 km now and hasn't given me any issues apart from this one. It got serviced recently too so this behavior is quite surprising. Well, the journey continues, doesn't it! Cheers!

Hey again! That does sound like a similar issue to what I faced. The lack of any additional noises or warnings does centralize the problem to potentially the main relay, or perhaps something similar. However, given your recent service, it's strange this is cropping up now. Just a thought, but did you check if there are any recalls for your model? Sometimes, manufacturers find some issues after selling a bunch of cars and you could get it fixed for free. Yeah, cars can be unpredictable sometimes. Hang in there and as you said, the journey indeed continues. I hope your Fiat is back on the road soon. If you find out the reason, do let us know. Safe travels!

Hi once more! That's a pretty legit idea, to check for any recalls - didn't strike me at all. I'll definitely look into it! Sure thing, will be keeping you posted if I find out the reason. You've been super helpful and it's appreciated. For now, let's keep our fingers crossed and hope whatever it is, it's not too major. As for the journey, as they say, it's the ride that matters not the destination, right? Safe driving to you as well! Cheers!

It's possible that the issue could be related to the key, especially if it's the only one you have. The key might have a problem with the transponder chip, which is necessary for the car's immobilizer system to recognize it and allow the engine to start. Try checking if the key's battery needs replacing or if the key itself is damaged. If the problem persists, it might be best to consult a professional to ensure the immobilizer system is functioning correctly. Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions!
