Troubleshooting Airbag Warning Light Issue in a 2018 Hyundai Veloster

Fault stored

Airbag warning light

Hey guys, I'm having a weird issue with my 2018 Hyundai Veloster with a Gasoline engine. Noticed the airbag warning light on and found a fault stored in the system. I'm thinking it could be an airbag system failure, but not 100% sure. Got any advice on how to narrow down and troubleshoot this problem? Curious to know if anyone else has faced this and how you got it fixed? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! Had a pretty similar issue with my 2017 Hyundai Elantra a while back, practically the same model, just a year older. As someone with low car experience, I couldn't figure it out by myself but had a workshop run a diagnostic scan - turns out it was the airbag system components acting up too! But didn't put a dent in my wallet since under warranty, it got fixed free of charge. Let me ask real quick - has your Veloster been bumped or in any accidents recently? Could give some more insights!

Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience. I haven't gotten into any accidents recently and I've clocked over 91K km on my Veloster. I'm definitely gonna try running another diagnostic scan just in case I've missed something, based on your suggestion. It's good to hear that it ended up being a warranty-covered issue for you though, gives me some hope. Cheers!

No problem, glad to help! Hmmm, given there's no recent accident and the high kms driven, it's possible the airbag system might have some wear and tear. Again, just making an educated guess here. Strange thing is, airbags are designed to last the life of your car. That said, a diagnostic scan is still your best bet to isolate the issue. As always, you can also reach out to Hyundai customer care just to double check if they've had other people with the same issue. If the repair cost turns out to be a stinger, not sure if it works your way but I'd push for a goodwill warranty considering just one year difference in the model. Good luck and fingers crossed it isn't anything major! Cheers!

Cheers for all your insights, really appreciate it. I wasn't aware that airbags are supposed to last the lifetime of the car, so that's handy to know. I'll move forward with another diagnostic scan to see if I can catch any issues I may have missed earlier. Also, I think contacting Hyundai customer care and seeing if they can provide additional support is a good idea. Let's hope it all works out and it's not a costly repair. If it is, I'll definitely keep your goodwill warranty advice in mind. Thanks again for all your help. Catch you later!
