Troubleshooting Overheating and Low Coolant Issues in 2015 Peugeot 408 - Possible Radiator Shutter Problems

Hey! I'm having a peculiar issue with my 2015 Peugeot 408, Gasoline engine. It's overheating and the coolant level's running low. My hunch is it could be a problem with the radiator shutter not functioning correctly. Has anyone else had this issue, and if so, can you share your troubleshooting tips and workshop experiences? Appreciate any advice, I'm stumped.

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Peugeot 408 is experiencing overheating and low coolant levels, with a suspicion that the radiator shutter might be malfunctioning. Possible causes include a corroded wiring harness, a coolant leak, or issues with the radiator, water pump, or thermostat. Suggested solutions involve having a mechanic inspect these components, especially focusing on the radiator shutter, to ensure proper airflow and address any leaks or faulty parts.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey! I had an eerily alike issue with my 2017 Peugeot 508. I'd rate my auto knowledge at a beginner's level. Basically, what happened was my sensor's wiring harness corroded and turned out defective. My mechanic did a bang-up job fixing it. The repair cost me around 155 Euro, not inclining too steep. Please share some additional tidbits about your vehicle, perhaps the exact mileage? This would help me dig deeper into the predicament you're facing. Hope this helps! Cheers.

Hey! Thanks for your input, it's been pretty useful! My 408 just hit 78552 KM last week. I haven't had any major service done recently, everything's been smooth sailing till this overheating issue cropped up. Kinda miffed that this is the first significant snag with my ride, but guess I'll have to deal with it head-on. Would a corroded wiring harness be the cause here, considering my mileage and all? Are there any other parts I should have my mechanic check as well? Best!

Hey there, It's a bit tricky diagnosing the issue without having a look at the car itself, and considering my previous scenario may not apply wholly to yours, given they're different modes. However, a problematic wiring harness could indeed be the culprit with the age and mileage on your ride. As a rule of thumb, if you're experiencing overheating issues and your coolant level's low, there's likely a leak somewhere. It could be a loose hose clamp or a cracked coolant reservoir. I'd also have your mechanic check the radiator, the water pump, and the thermostat. I'd recommend you to get a professional to check out your ride as soon as possible. Plus, you may want to get your radiator shutter looked at as well, considering your initial suspicion. If it's not functioning correctly, it might be hampering airflow to the radiator, which could also precipitate overheating. Stay safe and keep us posted! Cheers.

Hey there, Your advice is much appreciated! I now have more solid ground on what to look for when I take my car to the mechanic tomorrow. That list of parts you mentioned gives me a good starting point. And although it's unfortunate to think about a potential leak, it’s great to know what the possibilities might be. I'll definitely make sure the radiator shutter and those other parts get a thorough check. I really do hope it's something minor and repairable. Maybe with a bit of luck, it'll only be a faulty wiring harness or a slight radiator issue. Thanks for taking the time to help me out, I'll be sure to update you once I get to the bottom of this! Catch you later!
