Troubleshooting Transmission Issues and Warning Light on 2012 Fiat Linea
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Fiat Linea is experiencing transmission issues, including slipping, grinding noises, and a warning light on the speedometer. The suspected cause is a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor, but low transmission oil levels are also considered a potential issue. Suggested solutions include checking the transmission oil level and the oil temperature sensor, as well as considering the possibility of incorrect signals from the ECU affecting gear shifts. A visit to a trusted mechanic for a proper diagnosis is recommended.

Hey, thanks for reaching out. I've racked up 54440 km on it so far and had its latest service just a couple of months ago. Do you think low transmission oil could be the case even with this kind of mileage and recent service?

Hey there! For your 2012 Fiat Linea, 54k km isn't too much mileage, so it's slightly surprising you're facing these issues. But then transmission problems can manifest due to a whole range of factors and not necessarily related to the age or mileage of the vehicle. As for your recent service, well, it really depends on what was done. If the transmission oil wasn't checked or replaced as necessary, then low oil could definitely be causing your current troubles. Your suspicion about a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor isn't off the mark either. If it's sending incorrect signals to the ECU, it can lead to erratic gear shifts and could possibly trigger the warning light too! But honestly, it's hard to say for sure without a proper diagnosis. In my case, fixing the oil level worked, but your situation could be entirely different. Get a trusted mechanic to take a good look. Also, about the service bill, mine was around 365€, but yours may vary depending on what the problem really is. Hope you find a painless resolution to your problem!

Hey again! You're right, it seems like the transmission problem could be due to a bunch of factors. I'll definitely get my mechanic to check the transmission oil level and the oil temperature sensor too. Didn't consider the ECU angle earlier. Thanks for your insights and sharing your experience. Knowing how much it might cost gives me a ballpark figure to work with as well. Appreciate it! I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi there, I had a similar problem with my 2010 Fiat Punto a while back. I've got some experience with cars but I'm no expert. I took it to my local mechanic who found the transmission oil level was actually too low. Cost me 365€ to get it fixed. It's a good thing you've noticed the warning light. Might save you from some bigger issues. Can you share more about your vehicle? Like your mileage, last service you did, etc.? That'd help in offering more specifics. Hope this helps a bit!
