It was maybe half a quart low. And yeah, I made sure to use the right fluid according to the manual – the stuff for hybrids. Think that little bit being low could really cause all this?

Even a small deficit can affect pressure and lubrication enough to trigger the sensor and cause shifting problems. Best to get it checked soon, before it causes permanent damage.

Thanks! Dropped it off at the shop, and you were spot on. Turns out the low oil level triggered the sensor and put it in limp mode. They topped it off and replaced the faulty sensor. Cost me 365€, but at least it's running smooth again!

Low oil level and transmission temp sensor issues in Hyundais can definitely cause those symptoms. How low was it? And did you use the correct fluid when topping off?
