Tundra Transmission Sensor Issue

Hey, I've got a 2005 Tundra with a gasoline engine. The engine light comes on sometimes, and the transmission light too. It threw a code for a bad transmission oil temperature sensor. Sometimes it feels like it's in emergency mode, slipping, shifting hard, and even grinding. I checked the gearbox oil, and it seemed okay, but I'm wondering if low oil could be the problem. Anyone seen this before?

Sounds like the sensor, like you said. Did you check the gearbox oil level yourself? What happened? It's common on older Toyotas. Could be just the sensor, but check the easy stuff first.

Yeah, I checked the oil. It looked alright on the dipstick, but I'm not sure how accurate that is if the fluid is dirty or old. Could that cause these issues?

A small difference in oil level shouldn't cause those problems, but bad oil could. Grinding and emergency mode? Get it checked by a pro to avoid more damage. They can find the sensor problem and look for transmission damage.

Took it to a shop, and they said it was the transmission oil temperature sensor, just like we thought. Replaced it and flushed the transmission fluid, and it fixed everything. Cost 365€.
