Turn Signal Issues Plague VW T-Cross Owners
Summary of the thread
A 2022 VW T-Cross owner is experiencing turn signal issues, with a warning light and error message appearing in the instrument cluster. The problem is suspected to be related to a faulty signal lamp or wiring issue, particularly as it worsens in wet conditions. A similar case with a VW T-Roc involved a faulty cable connection due to moisture-induced corrosion, suggesting that examining the wiring harness connector for corrosion and water damage is a prudent first step. A proper diagnostic scan is recommended to confirm the issue and prevent further electrical problems.

Last service was at 95000km and since then the issue appeared. The warning occurs only on the left front turn signal and seems to get worse during wet conditions. Replacing the turn signal bulb didnt solve the problem. The flasher relay makes irregular sounds when using the left indicator and sometimes the warning appears even when the turn signal is not activated. Based on your repair experience, I suspect its also a wiring issue rather than just a faulty automotive lighting component. The strange part is that both front and rear turn indicators still light up, just not with consistent brightness. Would examining the wiring harness connector be a good first diagnostic step before taking it to the workshop?

Based on your description, this sounds exactly like the wiring issue I faced with my T-Roc. The symptoms match perfectly, especially the correlation with wet conditions and irregular flasher relay behavior. The inconsistent brightness you mentioned is a classic sign of a poor electrical connection. In my case, moisture had entered through a degraded seal and caused corrosion in the wiring harness connector near the turn indicator assembly. Since your indicators still function but show these issues, checking the wiring harness connector is definitely a smart first step. Look specifically for: Green/white corrosion on connector pins, Damaged wire insulation, Loose or bent connector terminals, Signs of water intrusion around the connector housing However, given the electrical fault symptoms and their relation to moisture, I strongly recommend getting a proper diagnostic scan. My repair started as a similar intermittent issue but could have led to more serious electrical problems if left unaddressed. The repair cost you might expect should be similar to what I paid (95€), assuming the root cause is indeed a damaged connector. Just be aware that if the wiring harness itself needs replacement, costs could be higher. Watch out for any burning smell or complete signal lamp failure, as these could indicate the problem is worsening and needs immediate attention.

Thank you for sharing those details about your repair experience. Given the symptoms you described, especially the connection to wet conditions, I am now quite convinced its a wiring issue similar to yours. The pattern matches what you encountered, irregular flasher relay operation and inconsistent turn signal brightness. I will start by checking the wiring harness connector for corrosion and water damage as suggested. The fact that the problem worsens in wet conditions strongly points to moisture intrusion somewhere in the electrical system. Since replacing the turn signal bulb made no difference, focusing on the wiring makes sense. Before booking a workshop appointment, I will inspect for the telltale signs you mentioned: Corrosion on connector pins, Damaged wiring insulation, Signs of water getting into the connector housing The estimated repair cost of 95€ sounds reasonable if its just the connector. I will schedule a proper diagnostic scan soon, especially since the warning appears even without activating the indicator light. Better to address it now before it leads to more extensive electrical problems. Thanks again for sharing your experience. It has helped narrow down the likely cause and saved me from unnecessarily replacing more automotive lighting components.

I experienced a very similar issue with my 2020 VW T-Roc. Having some experience with electrical problems in cars, I initially thought it was just a burnt-out indicator light. The symptoms were identical, irregular flasher relay behavior and warning messages in the cluster. After attempting basic checks, I took it to my workshop where they diagnosed a faulty cable connection near the front turn indicator assembly. The repair involved: Complete diagnostic scan, Locating the damaged wiring harness connector, Replacing the corroded plug connection, Testing all indicator light functions Total cost was 95€ including labor and parts. The repair solved both the warning light and the irregular indicator operation completely. To provide more specific advice about your situation, could you share: Does the issue occur on one particular side? Are both front and rear indicators affected? Does the problem happen consistently or intermittently? Have you noticed any water ingress around the lamp housings? Faulty connections often cause these indicator light problems, but proper diagnosis is important since similar symptoms can have different root causes.
