Twingo cold start issue

I'm having some issues with my 2007 Renault Twingo diesel. It's got 182329 km on the clock. I'm experiencing poor engine running during cold starts, which is getting progressively worse. The diagnostic tool shows an error stored in the error memory. Also, I've noticed a higher fuel consumption than usual. After some research, I suspect it's a defective electric auxiliary heater. Does anyone have experience with this? What could be the underlying cause?

I've seen this before on a Twingo. The symptoms point to the PTC heater, which is the electric auxiliary heater. It assists the engine in reaching operating temperature quickly, especially during cold weather. Have you checked the blower motor and the heating element's resistance? A faulty heating element will trigger the error memory and cause increased fuel consumption due to the engine working harder to warm up.

Thanks for the quick response! No, I haven't checked the blower motor and heating element resistance yet. Where exactly is the PTC heater located, and what resistance values should I be looking for to determine if the heating element is faulty?

The PTC heater is usually located near the blower motor assembly, behind the dashboard. I would recommend you skip checking yourself and leave it to a professional. Given the symptoms and error code, I'd advise taking it to a workshop for diagnosis and repair. Replacing it should resolve the issue, but a faulty blower motor control unit might also cause the problem.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I'll take it to a workshop this week. I received the cost estimation of 350€, and they said that would fix the issue. Hopefully, that will resolve it. Cheers!
