Twingo diesel generator failure
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Renault Twingo diesel with 215,304 km was experiencing reduced engine power, a battery warning light, poor starting, flickering lights, and occasional engine misfires. These issues were suspected to be caused by a failing generator, leading to a voltage drop. Testing the generator output with a multimeter was suggested, but ultimately, a workshop confirmed the generator was defective. Replacing the generator resolved all the problems, restoring normal engine function and electrical performance.

Yes, actually, I have noticed occasional engine misfires, especially when the electrical load is high, like when the headlights and heater are on. Would that be related to the generator as well? Is there a simple way to test the generator output before I replace it?

Yep, misfires can definitely be related to a faulty generator. Given all the symptoms you're describing, and the misfires under load, I'd say the generator is highly suspect. You could try testing the voltage with a multimeter, but honestly, with those kms, it's probably worn out. Best get it checked at a workshop to confirm.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were right – the generator was defective. They replaced it, and it cost 960€. Everything is working fine now. The new generator fixed all the problems: the warning light is off, the engine runs smoothly, and the lights are bright again.

Sounds like a generator problem to me. A failing generator can cause a voltage drop, which explains the warning light and starting issues. Weak lights are another classic symptom. Does the engine misfire sometimes?
